Serbs usually eat their breakfast at home or grab something at a bakery. Today I am going to share some good breakfast places with you.

1. Kafe Kozmetičar

This place was a famous Beauty Salon before it got a new coffee spot. Its interior is inspired by the 1970ties and various cities like Berlin, London, New York and polish ones. Besides high quality coffee from little fair trade plantations they serve Kusmi Tea, which is hard to get in Belgrade. There is also a huge common table, which is popular among the guests.

I love this place, first because it’s located in a cool neighbourhood – Vračar. Second, because of the atmosphere and last but not least: They serve delicious breakfast until 4 pm!

My breakfast recommendation: egg benedict or cereal with fresh fruit and a smoothie. If you prefer sweet breakfast, try the pancakes.

2. Supermarket Deli

Supermarket Deli is located in the city center and serves breakfast from 8 in the morning until noon. I think they have almost all variations of breakfast. You can choose either a healthy breakfast like cereal with fresh fruit, the English breakfast or if you want to try the local one – they offer uštipci (doughnut-like fried dough balls) and prženice (french toast) made with a Serbian granny recipe. Yummie!

The guest’s favourite are the eggs, because they prepare them in many ways: with mushrooms, bacon, ham, and/or vegetables. Further, there are delicious sandwiches on the menu. I like this place because the atmosphere is relaxed and the people, who come there are pretty cool. All products, which you see on the shelters are of Serbian origin and for sale.

3. Dokolica Bistro

This place reminds me on bistros in France and Spain. Dokolica is located in a calm street in Vračar. It is always a nice atmosphere in there and the staff is also very friendly.

For breakfast I recommend Croque Madame, a french toast with an egg on it. If you want to try a traditional dish, take gibanica (a pastry dish). They serve it with sour milk. P.S.: The smoothies are tasty.

4. Mala Fabrika Ukusa

Mala Fabrika Ukusa is located in a vivid neighbourhood, Vračar. But once you enter their big garden, you will feel like on the countryside. It is calm and very green – a perfect place to escape from the busy city life, even if it’s only for breakfast.

For breakfast they serve Serbian dishes, like homemade polenta with Serbian cheese, prženice (french toast), sunny side up eggs with bacon, cheese and peppers and omelettes. I recommend the Breakfast M.F.U., which includes cheese, kajmak (a creamy dairy product), prosciutto and fried peppers.

5. Kafanica

Kafanica is a special place in Košutnjak, Belgrade’s most beautiful nature spot. When you enter this place, you will feel like a time machine brought you to a Serbian family house in the 19th century.

The interior is in an ethno style and you will see chicken running around the restaurant, which gives this place an authentic atmosphere. The breakfast is also traditional. On the picture is a komplet lepinja, a specialty from the Serbian mountains – Zlatibor. It is a type of flat bread filled with an egg, prosciutto and kajmak. It costs 190 Din. (~ 1,60 €). An omlette with ham and cheese costs the same. And polenta 140 Din.
